About the producer:
This Cognac was distilled in Foussignac in '77. The municipality of Foussignac is located in the Fins Bois appellation. The 29 hectares of vineyards of this cognac house are located between Foussignac and Triac/Roissac, which is just on the border with the Grande Champagne appellation. The location, and therefore the terroir, of these vineyards ensures that these cognacs can be considered very aromatic and belong to the top of this cru. The vineyards were planted in the 1960s. It was Mrs. Foucher's father who started the cultivation and distillation, Marie took over in 1980.
We met Marie Foucher in the summer of 2023. At 42° degrees it was one of the hottest days of 2023, you would think that this is not ideal weather for tasting cognac. Nothing could be further from the truth! Marie took us on a journey through the history of her cognacs. With lots of great stories and anecdotes, we were able to return home satisfied with new experiences. In addition to cognac, Marie is also passionate about travelling & art. So plenty to talk about. Her typical Charentaise house breathes history and craftsmanship, the cognac cellars are a proof that time and patience are a virtue.
We are therefore very proud to be the first (bottler) to discover this cognacproducer. Previously, eau de vie was only sold to Courvoisier and before that to a few négocients from the area. We are very grateful for this completely exclusive collaboration and are very much looking forward to sharing some of the treasures from these cellars.
Tasting notes:
Nose: Cooked ripe fruit to prepare the most delicious jams. Very fruity and floral, not the first spring blossoms but the butterfly bushes that have survived several winters.
Taste: Very gourmand and layered. The alcohol is perfectly integrated. The liqueur of Grand Marnier, with lots of mango in combination with beeswax, leather and mild pipe tobacco.
Finish: Medium long finish where the fruit returns in layers, together with the delicious spices that provide a perfect balance.
Wonderfully drinkable yet with a firm body. Also perfect with a cup of coffee or an aged cigar.
Label explanation: The artwork on the label is a fantasy based on a travelogue by the French officer and writer Pierre Loti. Pierre loved traveling to distant destinations, just like Marie. In October, just before our 2nd visit, Marie had visited an exhibition about Loti in Paris. The stories were endless....
