A great opportunity to have an exceptional cognac from this well respected house. Tropical fruit and powerful spices in a perfect harmony. This is a cask-end from a phenomenal cognac that was used in their Réserve Familiale.

about the producer:
The cognac house Jean Fillioux, located in the golden triangle of the grande champagne (Juillac-Le-Coq/ Verrières/ Angeac-Champagne), was founded in 1880 by Honoré Fillioux and is still a family business in 2023. The domain extends over 50 hectares of vineyards, all located in the heart of the grande champagne. The beautiful domaine La Pouyade is located on top of a hill, if you drive up from Segonzac you will see the domain protruding above the landscape a few kilometers before arrival, beautiful! The Fillioux family is also "one with nature", the preservation and protection of the local fauna and flora is one of their core values. Pascal Fillioux (born 1948) transferred the domain to his son Christophe (born 1980) in 2015, but father and son still work well together. Christophe has the new ideas, works on growth and innovation and Pascal keeps an eye on things. Tradition, family and quality characterize this family.

This one's nicknamed 'Avec Allure', which I can only applaud, even if, or perhaps because that's an expression that would rather be related to la cavalerie. Or polka. Colour: deep reddish amber. Nose: once again, an oaky cognac. Now it's to be said that brandies take oak better than malt, possibly because the original materials are much richer. Stewed rose petals plus sandalwood, patchouli, potpourri, incense, damp peat (no smoke here), tobacco, cherry-flavoured tobacco (I used to smoke Borkum Riff forty years ago)… Mouth: hawthorn tea and mint, stewed damsons, menthol-fuelled liquorice lozenges, eucalyptus drops (Pulmoll)… High powers here, devilish embrocations, divine ointments, shamanistic oils… Finish: long, drier, rather gritty. Runs you off the road now. Comments: 1965, that's the Yardbirds! Love this one, it's just gone a wee tad over the top in my opinion, and lost a little fruitiness. Nah, it got dry.

@phex1825, instagram page, 14/10/2021:
Nose : Fresh. Waxy, fruity and floral. Honey, yellow fruits (nectarines, apricots). Fragrant and juicy. A touch of precious woods. Leather. Spices. With time, citrusy notes, a touch of oak.
Taste : Fruits and honey from the nose with spicy oak. So nectarines and apricots again. Passion fruits too. Tannins. A punchy and spicy fruits cocktail. Mentholated and herbal notes. Earthy notes.
Finish : Long, lingering yellow fruits and spices.
A lively überfruity and spicy old cognac from nose to palate. If you don't mind a "little" oak you will love this one. I do.

Ruben Luyten, www.whiskynotes.be, 24/09/2021:
Nose: plenty of juicy fruits. Nectarines, damsons, hints of preserved pineapples and whiffs of potpourri. Orange peels and marmalade. Tiny herbal notes and a warm woody undertone in the background. A great combination of fruits and more robust aromas.
Mouth: a tad more rough and wood-influenced now, although the fruits are still there. Oranges, tangerines, jammy apricots and hints of blackcurrants. A little peppermint, herbal honey. Liquorice and aniseed, with bittersweet notes and pinewood towards the end. Some earthy tea as well.
Finish: long and drying, with menthol and chlorophyl, fruits and hints of citrus green tea.
A lovely nose, punchy and rich. On the palate there’s still a great fruity side but it feels woodier than some of the best Malternative releases.
