This exceptional single cask cognac from the mid 1970s is a grande champagne of the highest level. Handmade on a wood fired small alambic charentaise and then kept with great care until the bottling date 30/06/2022. An extremely refined and ultra-fruity cognac is the result. Rarely could we taste such a balanced cognac! The result of passion and craftsmanship, a collaboration between father and son.

about the producer:
Olivier Laurichesse and Léa are both from Segonzac, this is where their roots lie. Olivier comes from a family with a long history in viticulture and cognac distillation. Olivier continued his studies in wine and oenology and gained his first work experience in Alsace and Médoc and returned to his "own terroir" in 2003. In 2015, Olivier started independently with 40 ha of vineyards located in Verrières and Angeac-Champagne located in the grande champagne, the first cru of the cognac region. Léa obtained a bachelor's degree in wine and spirit trading in 2008 and then went on to do a 3-month internship in New York America for an importer-distributor of spirits. She then resumed her studies at university and in 2010 she met Olivier.

In 2018, a marriage and 3 children later, they launched "laurichesse cognac" together to promote the barrels of cognac that Olivier's father, Guy Laurichesse, distilled in the 1970s (on a small 12 hl alambic). They also now distil cognac themselves from their own vineyards. Guy had handed over the keys to his chai, a hidden cellar at the back of the garden of his residence in Segonzac, to his son in 2018. What makes this cognac unique is that it is a single cask and has not been blended over the years. Very unique spirits that were never commercialized and that only waited for the next generation to convince the enthusiasts of its great qualities and aromas. Grande champagne cognac at its peak!

In the late summer of 2021, during a cognac trip, we went to pick up our daily fresh bread at the bakery on the square in Segonzac. This beautiful municipality is our regular base when we are in France. Here we were pointed out that the neighbor across the street also had a cognac house. For real? Many times we passed this little square without realizing that behind that brown gate a treasure of sublime cognac was hidden. We got in touch and a first visit followed in December 2021. The sweet and down-to-earth owners Olivier and Léa introduced us to their family business. We are very grateful and proud to have this exclusif collaboration!

Serge Valentin, whiskyfun.com, 09/04/2023:
King of Fall! Colour: reddish amber. Nose: very similar, just a tad fatter, a touch less complex, a notch jammier. Quinces keep running the show. With water: nuts, sesame, pine nuts, sunflower seeds, quinoa… nah, not quinoa. Fresh putty and almond milk for sure. Mouth (neat): brilliantly fruity, unvulgar, the pure production of time (and not of any lousy wood tekhnology). Peaches in total majesty. With water: a slightly tarter variant. Quality is similar, that s to say very high. Finish: mangos chiming in! Menthol and old sweet chenin blanc in the aftertaste. Comments: there's another track by The AWB which I always loved, it's called 'Stop the Rain' (how Scottish indeed), with a killer bass-line. Check it out. This little cognac too has a killer bass-line, by the way. Grand cognac.

Ruben Luyten, www.whiskynotes.be, 09/09/2022:
Nose: absolute elegance again, very seductive. Plenty of fruits show up over time, starting with tangerines, bananas flambéed and raisins, later followed by dried apricots, candied pineapple and mango. Subtle hints of dried herbs, sandalwood, leather, brass polish and mint. Freshness and expressiveness: both excellent.
Mouth: now it really bursts open. An oily texture with more mango, combined with passion fruits, pink grapefruits, tangerines and peaches. Then some Earl Grey tea and pineapple cubes, with a hint of floral honey and jams. There’s beautiful rancio too, with a light touch of minty oak and a few drops of Chartreuse.
Finish: very long, fresh and minty, with herbal tea and an afterburst of fruity notes.
Excellent cognac, showing the most brilliant, jammy fruit basket of the entire session. If that rocks your boat, this is one of the best cognacs in the Malternative portfolio so far in my opinion. Hardly any oak too! In Jerez they used to wear Oloroso as a perfume, I’m sure this cognac would work too.
Score: 92/100

Laurichesse is a small estate/brand founded by Olivier Laurichesse to promote the cognacs distilled by his father in the 1970's. But they also started distilling their own grapes recently.
Laurichesse Grande Champagne 1975 'Le Roi de l'Automne' (50.4%, Cognac, Malternative Belgium, 2022)
Nose : The fruity side of old Grande Champagne. Yellow and tropical fruits (nectarines, passion fruits) and citrus (grapefruits, tangerines), leather, a touch of beeswax, a few spices and mentholated notes. Chiselled, acidulous and more fragrant fruitiness on second tasting with opening.
Palate : A kick of acidulous fruits (from the nose) and spices. Passion fruits with tannins, peaches, pepper and mentholated notes. Very good balance between fruits and oak. Nectar-ish feeling on the palate. A touch of rancio in the background.
Finish : Long, lingering fruits and spices.
A very lively and fruity old Grande Champagne.
Excellent selection from @malternativebelgium & @thewhiskyjury.
And thanks to @cognaclaurichesse for releasing the cask of this delicious nectar.
I can never get enough of these old cognacs.
8.5/10

Valentin Audrier on Horsdage.fre 09/09/2022:
First Laurichesse on Hors d’Age, and I begin with an IB version bottled by Malternative Belgium and The Whisky Jury. Laurichesse is a very young brand (they began selling cognac in 2018) founded in 2015 by the owner of Paul Beau, Olivier Laurichesse. With 40 hectares (in Grande Champagne too) and his own distillery, he has also inherited old stocks from his father, which leads us to this Lot 75 reviewed today. 50,4%, G.C, bottled in June 2022. Let’s go!
Colour: Amber, orange lights. Regular heavy tears.
Nose: Full of candied citruses, mainly orange and tangerine at first. You get a great wave of warm spices too, something between safran and cinnamon. Very elegant nose. Nice leathery shades immediately followed by a light freshness on cardamom. Still opulent citruses notes, quite heady with obvious orange blossom notes and hints of lemon peel marmalade.
Palate: Acidulous/oily texture. Intense black pepper aromas are counterbalanced by wee tangerine juice notes. A tad of fresh fig too. The second palate gets some rich licorice syrup aromas, but it remains very fruity, this time on quince jam and plums liqueur. Nice mouth length.
Last Notes: Aside from light resinous notes, you also get subtle musk scents and some vegetal tones, combined with peach juice and young pineapple notes, it could easily remind you of something between Barbados and Jamaican rum. Back on the palate, it gets richer aromas. This extra air has given more exotic shades to this G.C. Incredible rancio with a nice evolution from overripe apricots and mangos to walnut kernel and leathery tones. In the very end, you keep a nice freshness on thyme glued to the sides and the top of your palate. Bang!
That’s another winner unearthed by Pieter. It reminds me a bit of Navarre’s Vieille Reserve (43yo+, G.C, 45%, wild rancio with a great evolution) in some aspects, maybe even more precise.
My very subjective note: 90+/100

Mark Dermul, whivie 09/09/2022:
Gelooft u in toeval?
Olieachtig, mondvullend, plakkend.
90/100
