About this cognac:
This Cognac was distilled in Foussignac in '79. The municipality of Foussignac is located in the Fins Bois appellation. The 29 hectares of vineyards of this cognac house are located between Foussignac and Triac/Roissac, which is just on the border with the Grande Champagne appellation. The location, and therefore the terroir, of these vineyards ensures that these cognacs can be considered very aromatic and belong to the top of this cru. The vineyards were planted in the 1960s. It was Mrs. Foucher's father who started the cultivation and distillation, Marie took over in 1980.

About the producer:
We met Marie Foucher in the summer of 2023. At 42° degrees it was one of the hottest days of 2023, you would think that this is not ideal weather for tasting cognac. Nothing could be further from the truth! Marie took us on a journey through the history of her cognacs. With lots of great stories and anecdotes, we were able to return home satisfied with new experiences. In addition to cognac, Marie is also passionate about travelling & art. So plenty to talk about. Her typical Charentaise house breathes history and craftsmanship, the cognac cellars are a proof that time and patience are a virtue.

This single cask is our fourth selection from the cellars of Mrs. Foucher.

Tasting notes:
Nose: Expressive nose of overripe fruit, with guava, plums, apricot and dates, complemented by dark honey, salted caramel and a fresh touch of grapefruit.
Taste: Silky smooth and full, with an oily texture. Flavours of stewed apple, ripe pear, apricot, marzipan and walnut are beautifully supported by spices, a delicate woody note and bitters of candied citrus.
Finish: The finish is long and layered. A pleasant dryness from old oak is perfectly balanced by sweeter accents of toffee and dates. Long, aromatic finish with old oak, toffee, dates, roasted almonds, a light smoky touch and a fresh citrus finale.

Explanation of the label:
Le Prullepie is a name full of affectionate teasing, and it’s true, this is not a French name but a Dutch expression (now with international allure!). For us, a prullepie is someone you are fond of but also like to tease a little — always warmly and without any bad intentions. On the artwork we see Ysatis’ grandfather, whom she always called that. He played the accordion and brought music, atmosphere and character into the lives of the people around him. And that is exactly what this cognac radiates as well! The fact that this cognac was bottled on his birthday makes this release a particularly personal tribute.
Prullepie is accompanied by a robin, a symbol that has a special meaning for us, because the same little bird also always follows us during our visits to Marie. At the estate of Marie Foucher, people and animals clearly feel happy!

Roger Caroni, Le blog a Roger, 30/03/2026:
Nez
Conclusion

We have absolutely no idea what a prullepie might be, in any case, in French it is neither a bird nor an accordion. But let us move on… Colour: full gold. Nose: admirably taut, yet also admirably fruity, as if it were a blend of small plums just on the verge of reaching maturity. A few chalky touches in the background, in the style of a very good champagne (the sparkling wine, that is). Very light green pepper. With water: cut grass, fruit skins, almond milk, before pink grapefruit comes bursting through. Mouth (neat): one could call it frank, direct, honest and straight at this strength, in any case it is more marked by yellow citrus than many cognacs. Between ourselves, a cognac at 53% behaves on the palate like a malt whisky at 63%, honestly. So… With water: gentler, yet it remains taut, with a marked rustic side. Touches of bitter beer and flint. Finish: long and truly very beautiful, it is almost the best part, with citrus of superb freshness. Comments: very much malternative, and at times also rather close to an old marc (from the Jura, for instance). We do love this.
SGP:551 - 90 points.

Opa

Ruben Luyten, www.whiskynotes.be, 27/03/2026
Nose: a fruity onset. We’re getting mirabelles, oranges and apricot. That said, it’s less fruity and jammy than how I remember the Lot 75 for instance. A pleasant dustiness, even a salty touch underneath dried herbs. Later also a darker, slightly caramelized note in the background.
Mouth: richer than I expected, on stewed apricot and apple, hints of quince jam and almond sweetness. Then the herbal notes set in, along with a little tea and clove oil. Sweetened black tea, drops of Peychaud bitters. Back to citrus peels after a while.
Finish: long, on citrus zest, herbal tea, date sweetness and drying, slightly toasted oak.
Already the fourth Foucher release by Malternative Belgium. Another very good one...
